Prof. Serdar Geri, Vice-Rector of Yalova University, attended the ‘Awards and Promotion Evening’ and the 9th Ordinary Financial General Assembly Meeting organised in Ankara to mark the 30th anniversary of the Turkish University Sports Federation (TÜSF).
At the Awards and Promotion Evening, which highlighted the Federation’s 30 years of experience and the successes achieved in university sports, universities that had excelled in national and international events were honoured. In this context, Yalova University was honoured with an international achievement plaque in recognition of the gold medals it won in FISU events.
The achievements that earned our university this meaningful award were underpinned by the results achieved by students from our Faculty of Sports Sciences at the FISU World University Wrestling Championships held in Brazil. At the Championships, Şevval Çayır became world champion in the 53-kilogramme category and Ayşe Erkan in the 68-kilogramme category, whilst Zerda Demir secured second place in the 50-kilogramme category, bringing great pride to our country and our university.
At the ceremony honouring these achievements, the international achievement plaque awarded on behalf of our university was presented to our world champion athlete, Şevval Çayır.
Following the awards ceremony, our Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Serdar Geri, attended the 9th Ordinary Financial General Assembly Meeting of the Turkish University Sports Federation (TÜSF), held on 2 November 2026, representing our university. At the General Assembly, where Federation President Prof. Mutlu Türkmen provided an assessment of the development of university sports, institutionalisation efforts and objectives for the coming period, the activity and financial reports, along with the estimated budgets for 2027–2028, were discussed and the agenda items were approved unanimously.
We are delighted that our university’s achievements in the field of international sport have been recognised, and we wholeheartedly congratulate our successful athletes, our coaches and everyone who have contributed to these achievements; we also extend our congratulations to TÜSF President Prof. Mutlu Türkmen and his team on the occasion of the Federation’s 30th anniversary.
As Yalova University, we take pride in our champions and remain committed to contributing to the development of university sport and achieving further successes on the international stage.
