Students from the Faculty of Engineering at Yalova University have added yet another achievement to their list of nationwide successes with their visionary projects combining technology and agriculture.
In the grand final of the “Agricultural Technologies Ideathon”, organised in collaboration with the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Capsule Technology Platform and the Mevlana Development Agency (MEVKA), the TARAGAY-BİO team, comprising students from our faculty, won the First Prize worth 75,000 TL.
Technology Merging Space and Agriculture: The Microgravity Bioreactor
The project, developed under the mentorship of our fourth-year Mechanical Engineering student Musa Sevidoğlu, our second-year Industrial Engineering student Nisa Nur Keklik, and Ahmet Kırık—a graduate of our university and founder of Filizhane Indoor Farm—holds the potential to be a game-changer in the field of space agriculture.
The “Seed Development and Biotechnological Testing Bioreactor in a Microgravity Environment” simulates microgravity conditions on Earth using the Random Positioning Machine (RPM) principle. This enables the physiological responses of plants to space conditions to be observed in a laboratory setting without the need for costly space missions.
Interdisciplinary Synergy
This project, which combines TARAGAY SPACE’s technical design and prototyping capabilities with Filizhane Indoor Farm’s agricultural expertise, stands out as one of the first examples in Turkey contributing to the National Technology Initiative vision.
We congratulate our students and graduate who have brought pride to our university and wish them continued success.
