Art and Design Transformation on Our Campus: Anatolian Motifs Blended with the Digital Future

Guided by the vision of being a pioneering university through our contributions to education, research, innovation, society and the environment, our institution is transforming its campus into a living art centre. In collaboration with the Directorate of Construction and Technical Affairs and the Faculty of Art and Design, the project has incorporated traditional Anatolian motifs into the campus's communal areas using modern design technologies.

The project entitled ‘Computational Generative Design and Craft Interaction in the Evaluation of Shared Recreation Areas,’ launched with the aim of creating a more aesthetic, safe and social living space, was completed with four comprehensive workshops.

Joint Signature from the Yalova University Family

Our Rector, Prof. Mehmet Bahçekapılı, our Vice-Rector, Prof. Cahit Külekçi, our Secretary General, Hayri Karaca, our deans and our department heads participated in and supported this transformation process, which brought a breath of fresh air to the campus. The events, in which our academic and administrative staff and students worked shoulder to shoulder, formed one of the finest examples of the culture of unity and solidarity at our university.

Traditional Traces Meet Modern Technology

Under the guidance of project leaders Dr Korcan Gülfidan, Research Assistant Ecem Güleç and Research Assistant Süphan Kaan Çiftci, a total of 75 students played an active role in reinterpreting ancient Anatolian motifs using digital design methods.

Our students combined our cultural heritage with the help of computational design in applications themed ‘Parametric Traces on Campus,’ ‘From Point to Line,’ and ‘Rhythm in Space,’ lending an aesthetic depth to surfaces and spatial voids. As a result, our campus has been enriched with unique works that reflect the elegance of the past and the technology of the future.

Artistic Touches to Spread Across Campus

It was stated that these works, which are part of our student-friendly and living campus vision, will not be limited to existing areas. It was emphasised that similar aesthetic and artistic projects will continue to increase at different points of our university, adding colour and vibrancy to every corner of our campus with the unifying power of art.

We would like to thank all academic and administrative staff involved, as well as our students whose designs have added value to our university.
