Joint Appeal from Yalova

Joint Appeal from Yalova

The Yalova Power Union Federation, the Anatolian Associations Federation and the Black Sea Associations Federation held a joint press conference at Cevdet Aydın Park to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The statement was read by our Rector, Prof. Mehmet Bahçekapılı.

Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Bahçekapılı, emphasised in his statement that they had come together within this framework with the determination to stand by the honour, dignity and rights of Palestinian Muslims. In his statement, drawing attention to the following points he:

•    described Israel's operations in Gaza, the West Bank and Palestinian territories in general as ‘genocide’, “massacre” and ‘ground offensive’.
•    emphasised that such actions are unacceptable under international law, human rights conventions and basic human conscience.
•    assessed the silence of the United Nations and other international organisations as turning a blind eye to this tragedy and stated that these institutions must take responsibility in this matter.
 •    argued that ‘silence is the greatest supporter of oppression,’ suggesting that remaining silent could constitute an active sharing of responsibility.
•    Additionally, a call was made for a joint action and representation at Yalova Square on 18 October at 6:00 PM.

This call is seen not only as a sign of regional solidarity, but also as a symbolic step towards the international community demonstrating sensitivity to justice and human dignity.
