The Retirees and Retired Families Panel was organized under the leadership of Yalova University Women and Family Studies Application and Research Center (YÜKAM) and Yalova Çiftlikköy Retirees Assistance and Solidarity Association and Yalova Governorship, with the support of Yalova University Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Application and Research Center (YUFİZYOM), Yalova City Council, Yalova Çiftlikköy Municipality, Yalova Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services and Yalova Recycling Art and Culture Association (YAGES) as stakeholders. In her opening speech, Prof. Dr. Elif Yüksel Oktay, the president of YÜKAM, who moderated the panel, thanking all stakeholders and participants stated that the panel was the first panel on retirees in Yalova, and retirement is a period when all the activities that couldn't not be done but longed for can be done, and social relations - which are generally not available in working life - are experienced more, and socialization should be more, and retirement is not aging, but a new beginning.
The first speech was delivered by Dr. Lecturer İsmail Ünğan from the Faculty of Medicine. Speaking about the importance of heart health and the discomforts that can be experienced related to the heart, Dr. Ünğan completed his speech by talking about what needs to be done to protect against these ailments and to have a healthy heart.
The second speaker was Dr. Lecturer Sema Arslan Kabasakal from the Faculty of Sports Sciences and concluded her speech by talking about the importance of healthy nutrition, what should be considered for a healthy diet, and the foods that should be taken and avoided for a healthy life.
Yalova University Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Application and Research Center (YUFIZYOM) Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asuman Saltan explained the symptoms of sarcopenia, which is the loss of muscle mass that can be seen at any age but can occur especially with aging, its negative effects on individuals and what to do to prevent this health problem.
Mevlüd Acar, who participated in the panel on behalf of Yalova Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services, explained the services of the Ministry of Family and Social Services for the elderly, the activities of the Provincial Directorate, and the services provided to the elderly in nursing homes in Yalova.
Colors of Life After Retirement: Lecturer Dr. Şeyda Demir ,n her speech, The Power of Socialization, explained the importance and benefits of socializing in retirement and made movie and book recommendations to the audience, while Dr. Lecturer Yusuf Ziya Yıldırım, a faculty member of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, shared the results of the survey conducted to determine the problems of the elderly living in Yalova regarding the city.
Tevfik Çelik, president of Yalova Çiftlikköy Retirees Assistance and Solidarity Association, thanked Yalova University, all stakeholders and the audience by stating the problems experienced by the retirees and their solution suggestions.
At the end of the panel, where YAGES president Vedia Işık Güngör and Pınar Demirel colored the ambience with their painting and marbling exhibition and many participants and non-governmental organizations with their participation, Yalova University Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Application and Research Center (YUFİZYOM) performed muscle strength measurement and functional evaluations for individuals over the age of 60-65.
